Award-winning Yorkshire artist Garth Bayley will be bringing the excitement of professional cycling to canvas as Artist in Residence at this year's North Yorkshire Grand Prix, at Ampleforth Abbey, on Sunday 16 August. This year the event returns to its traditional home, with two exciting circuits that extend throughout the Abbey grounds and over the Howardian Hills Landscape.
Throughout the day, visitors can watch Garth painting live, capturing the speed, energy and atmosphere of one of the UK's premier road races. Known internationally for his expressive cycling paintings, Garth has become renowned for documenting every stage of the Tour de France and tour of Britain through a series of original artworks.
Alongside his live painting demonstrations, Garth will also have a curated exhibition of original paintings celebrating the drama and movement of cycle racing. A selection of smaller works on paper will also be available to purchase, offering an opportunity to take home an original piece of art inspired by the sport.
