The Abbey is delighted to be hosting the North Yorkshire Grand Prix on Sunday 16th August. The race will pass through the main entrance to the Abbey as well as the main drive through the estate.
There will be rolling road closures in place in these areas as well as on local roads as the cyclists pass through, with access possible again as soon as the main group have passed through. The approximate timings for the race are as follows:

Visitors to Mass and the Abbey Church:
- Please arrive before 9am and park in the Visitor Car Park at Alban Roe House. Exit to the main road will be via the Estates Office entrance. There may be a short wait should the race be passing along the main road at the time of your leaving. You are warmly invited to join us as a spectator during this exciting event.
Spectators and those visiting the Visitor Centre, Tea Room and Shop:
- All cars arriving at the Abbey after 9am will be guided to use the secondary entrance to our site, closest to Ampleforth village. On arrival, parking marshalls will direct you to one of our car parks. Please note that as the race passes through villages and along roads which form part of the main routes to the Abbey, it's possible there may be a short delay to your journey to us. Those leaving before the end of the race will be able to leave the Abbey via the secondary entrance to the main road. There may be a short wait should the race be passing along the main road at the time of your leaving. We hope you enjoy this exciting event!
Retreat Guests:
- If you due to depart on the morning of Sunday 16th, please arrange to park your car in the Visitor Car Park at Alban Roe House on the evening of Saturday 15th, as no exit from the Retreat Centre car parks will be possible during the race. You will be guided to leave the Abbey via the secondary entrance to the main road. There may be a short wait should the race be passing along the main road at the time of your leaving.
